Multiple types of housing are available to you: public university housing (fr. résidence CROUS); private
student residences, and general housing rentals (alone or with roommates)
Visa Requirements:
- Students of non-European nationality must obtain a visa for their stay in France.
Consult the Espace Campus France website in your country of residence or the French Consulate near
you to find out about the types of visas and how to obtain them.
- As an exchange student, you must apply for a long-stay visa (VLS), type D, which will allow you to enter and stay in France from 4 months to 1 year. This visa will then allow you to circulate (without any other visa) in the Schengen area, provided that you do not exceed 90 days during the validity of the visa.
There are two types of visas: the "temporary" long-stay visa and the "residence permit" long stay visa. If you have the opportunity, we advise you to apply for a long stay visa "valid as a residence permit" because it gives you more rights in France.
- Proof of accommodation may be required for your visa application. A reservation in a
temporary accommodation (youth hostel, hotel, etc.) may be accepted. Contact the French consulate near you for more information.
